Cool Day at the Zoo

Middle of August isn't exactly the best time to visit the zoo in Phoenix, but one morning, we were totally overcast, and by 8:00am it was still only in the 80's. Olivia thought this would be a perfect day to go to the zoo and I agreed. We quickly got some snacks and jumped in the car before the cloud cover burned off or opened up and rained on us. At the zoo, we were one of 7 families in the entire place, so we had total run of the place. We got to talk to all the zoo keepers, have private showings, had no one in the petting zoo, and about 4 other people in feeding the birds with us. The clouds did open up and pour down for about 20 minutes, but we just ate popcorn in the restaurant/snack bar and waited it out. They got to feed the giraffes, lots of ducks and had no one there to compete with. Izzy got pretty friendly with some of the deer in the petting zoo, but Olivia attracted a Llama who followed her around the entire time trying to eat her hair. By the time we left, the clouds started to burn off and it was well over 100, but we had a great day!

Daddy's Doing Homework

Daddy's always doing homework, or work, or something that involves the computer. Of course, the girls look up to him and want to be just like him, so whenever he is at home set up in our family workspace, the girls raid the house to make their own workspace right around Daddy's. We now have two keyboards ('puter is what Izzy calls them) and they bring desks and chairs and happily sit there and type on and off for quite a while right next to Daddy. Of course Daddy doesn't mind at all having these co-workers around.

Comicon

So, while we were in Utah, Shayne and some "buddies" (guys that chat with each other online about Star Wars) got together, rented a van and drove overnight to San Diego in order to visit Comicon, the huge convention that attracts nerds from all over the country. Here, people can really embrace their nerd-dom because they get dressed up, buy lots of "collector's items" (really just toys that say for ages 4 and up). They spent a good 8-10 hours there, and then drove back...overnight to Phoenix. He said it was a whirlwind of a trip, he spent way too much money, and can't wait for next year. I am sure the synopsis would be totally different if Shayne were writing (or reading) this, but since he does neither, you get the truth...
