I was sitting on my bed trying to talk on the phone, when Quinten ran screaming into my room, ran around my bed, climbed up to my pillow, snuggled right in next to me for security...then slowly produced an old maid card that he was hiding behind him. He was just sitting there grinning from ear to ear holding his treasure when the girls ran in screaming that Quinten had trashed their game and made off with a card!

Wonderful Fathers
We have been blessed with some of the MOST AMAZING father's in our family.
Grandpa:
Makes cookies with the kids EVERY TIME he sees them (that takes A LOT of patience)
He whispers: Grandpa Loves You!! I just can't help myself!! into the kids ears so much that they can finish his sentences for him...and love doing it!
He takes EVERY chance he can to snuggle and love on the kiddos
He has helped our family through more than a few "tough times"
He is very close to our Heavenly Father and has fostered a strong testimony in his son.
Papa:
Gives each child their own "special" name, ours are: Knucklehead, Butch, & Floyd (my kids CHERISH these names)
He has all sorts of inside-jokes with each kid (little-bathtub, whooppin's, hound dog kisses, the tooth fairy)
Sings countless songs to his grandkids.
Has helped our family through more than a few "tough times"
He has taught/helped us fix and improve our home in numerous ways
Has been such an example to his children of a hard-working, loving, spiritual man
Daddy:

My kids LOVE rock candy, so when I told Liv that we could "make" it, she HAD to put it on our To-Do List...
As you can tell from the picture, my kids were NOT fans of said homemade rock candy. I think we'll stick to purchasing it in the future...

Summer Fun List--#5: Tie Dye
We have some "wonderful" friends who think it is "funny" to give our kids birthday gifts that they'll love and mom and dad will HATE! We've received over the years: a doll that constantly cries, make up sets, and a cheer game that has the kids repeating noisy/super-loud cheers continually. This year, they topped it, Olivia received a tie dye kit that can dye up to 15 different pojects...yippeeeee! We decided to save it for summer break, one day invite some friends over, tie dye and BE DONE WITH IT! Needless to say, the kids LOVED it, and now love their new jammies. Thank you Haverkamps!

Run-Ins With the Law
Recently we've had some run-ins with the law that has left me rather pleased with our police departments...
Freeway Stops
We had a long day of errand running, so I let the kids pick out a prize at the dollar store before we got going. Olivia picked a bag of butterscotch discs and as soon as we got on the freeway, she popped one in her mouth. I looked back in the rear view mirror and saw her red face and hands around her throat and IMMEDIATELY thought she was CHOKING! I quickly pulled off the side of the freeway and ran around the van to pull her out. She started sobbing that it hurt, and I knew she wasn't choking, but had swallowed that candy and it was lodged in her throat. We were on the side of the road maybe two minutes when the highway patrol pulled up behind us. They were just checking to see if we were OK and if there was anything they could do to help. I had gotten the candy to start slowly moving down her throat, so I told them that we were fine, and he offered to have the paramedics come out just to check her out and make sure. Since it was already moving, I again declined their offer, and he walked back to his car. I got Olivia back in the van, and the police officer returned with teddy bears for each of my kids. We were quickly on our way and everyone LOVED our run-in with the law...
AT The Park
The kids and I had been out bike riding and ended up at the park near our house. There was a young guy (23 or so) on a bike and asked if he could sit in the shade near where our bikes were. He was a nice enough guy, but there was something a little off. His conversation was just off, he was asking all kinds of personal information: where our house was, what I did for work, where my husband worked, etc. but then also about what the real meaning of love was, how do you stay married for years, etc. and I just was not comfortable. Either he was not totally there mentally, or he was too fried to be there mentally, and I couldn't tell which one it was. I called my girlfriend to come play with us at the park because I didn't feel comfortable going home and having him know where we lived, and shortly after she arrived, he said goodbye and took off. A few minutes later an off-duty police officer drove up and identified himself. He said he was watching us while the guy was there because he was obviously high (apparently I am not well versed in the signs of being on drugs). He said he was a known felon in the area that rips off people's car stereos (I was in super-freak-out mode being a mother hen with my chicks there and having had a lengthy conversation with a known felon on drugs!!). The police officer re-assured us that he was not violent at all but was curious what kind of information I had given him. He said that the El Mirage Police Department has been keeping a watchful eye over our development lately and they were even having the off-duty police officers working overtime doing drive-bys, etc. I'm so pleased with the officers our patrolling our neighborhood, keeping an eye on us!!
Break-Ins
Our neighborhood has had a spike in break-ins lately. They are always during the day, when no one is home, and they only make off with a few things. This has gotten me really on edge (what with my other experience at the park and all...). As neighbors we've all gotten really vigilant, watching over each others' homes while we're out. I know of 4 break-ins right around my house, which has left me feeling less than safe about leaving the house or staying there alone! One morning, I looked out my window and in my neighbor's drive way was a parked an unknown white car. I know those neighbors were gone at work and shouldn't have a white car parked in their driveway, so I went outside to check it out. The driver could see me eyeballing him and got out and identified himself as a police officer. He had asked my neighbors if he could park in their driveway all day, waiting for the burglars to come down our road. He said they pretty much knew who the criminals were, but had to catch them with something, or in the act in order to prosecute them. He waited in his car ALL day, keeping our street safe. He also told me that he had been watching over my family at the park the other day (different time than the above experience) just keeping an eye on the neighborhood until these criminals who were scaring our community were caught. I told him about my experience at the park with the stereo thief and he told me that he was back in jail. I have to tell you I've never been so grateful to have a police officer parked outside my house for an entire day!!

The police caught a group of 4 teenagers (2 legally adults) who were responsible for the break-ins around. They worked tirelessly and many off-duty/overtime hours to keep our neighborhood safe and I TRULY appreciate all that they've done!

Summer Fun List-- #4: Chuck-E-Cheese
Our playgroup did a chuck-e-cheese day, and we LOVED it!! Of course there was a train that Bubba had to ride about 20 times. We won LOTS of tickets, ate pizza and enjoyed our day out of the heat.
Mesa Temple
Our kids don't get very many opportunities to go to the Mesa temple, so when we were down in Mesa this last weekend, we decided to take time to walk around temple grounds and go in the visitor's center. I have to admit the girls were pretty bummed that they didn't actually get to go inside the temple, but they loved the reflecting pools, looking at all the artwork and displays in the visitors center, and looking at the beautiful flowers all around the temple.
Summer Fun List-- #27: Making Forts
Peach Crop
We pulled off the first crop of peaches from the tree this year. They are SCRUMPTIOUS!! I had to stop the kids at 4 peaches each a day (I'm afraid of the effects)... The kids love picking them off, and they even asked to leave some on the tree at the end so the birds can enjoy the peaches too...

Summer Fun List-- #25 Visit A Museum
We visited the Children's Museum which is ALWAYS a favorite in our house. They've added a few new cool things to play on, which we LOVE!
One of the girls' favorite is the grocery store. They love to unload the truck, stack the shelves, work the register & buy the groceries.
I think Bubba's favorite is definitely the car wash. He rode each type of car they had to make sure he found his favorite.
You can't beat a painting project that you actually walk into!!
Fast forward 14 years...I'm scared.
Not even 14 years...more like 9...Oh, I'm NOT ready for that!!

We also went to the Natural History Museum this summer!
To be honest, even the girls thought the T-Rex would be bigger than this...
Bubba conked out for a bit, but Daddy didn't mind the snuggle time.
They had an anamatronic dinosaur mountain, which was AWESOME! Every 20mins or so there was a flash flood and all the dinosaurs came to life!
We went over to the Arizona Territory section and the kids got to pan for gold. Olivia was TOTALLY into this part! She was NOT going to leave until she FILLED her little baggie with gold!!
Of course Bubba found the ONLY train in the ENTIRE museum! He freaked out when it was time to explore other areas.
We had a BLAST at the Natural History Museum! We definitely must go back!!

Couponing
The girls always want to hear stories from when I was little: what I did; what I ate; where we went; games I played; etc. I was telling them that I used to LOVE playing mailbox when I was a kid. My sister or my friends and I would write each other letters, send coupons, or little trinkets through the mail system (aka Tommy) into the mailboxes we had created. They were usually stickers, little trinkets we had from parties, hand-written coupons, etc. The girls decided that they might like that and began creating all kinds of "LOVE" coupons for each other. It's been a lot of fun to see them create and use these coupons with each other.
